St Peters Lutheran School

Board of Education

December 14th, 2009

  • Budget Concerns:  The Board discussed the financial concerns the church is currently experiencing and cost-cutting measures that are being undertaken.  Funds from the school lunch account have been used to help pay down outstanding energy bills.
  • Enrollment/Marketing for 2010/2011:  The Board discussed the need for an aggressive marketing campaign in the hope of recruiting new enrollees from the nearby public school districts whose funds are being severely cut by the State.  We will discuss ways of reaching out to nearby communities and what messages we would most like to convey about our school in mailers.
  • Kitchen Recycling:  The Board discussed the need for a program to recycle the plastic milk bottles used by the students at lunchtime.  Paul Rice will continue to look into the most cost-effective and feasible way to implement such a program.
  • Guidelines For Students Who Attend Home Sporting Events:  Students who stay after school to attend sporting events will now be required to stow their backpacks and coats in the school basement and remain in the gym until an adult arrives to pick them up.  They will no longer be allowed to roam the hallways unless accompanied by a parent.
  • Tuition and Fees 2009/2010:  In light of the financial hardship the church is currently experiencing, the Board discussed the need for a modest increase in tuition rates for next year.  The tuition rates proposed by John Kutz and Pastor Haller were approved.
  • Volunteer Tutorial Program:  Katie Williamson has undertaken the leadership for this program and volunteers should be tutoring children by the beginning of the second semester.
  • Mimio Boards:  The equipment is being installed and the staff has been trained in the use of the mimio technology.
