A WORD FROM YOUR ELDERS
Breathe . . . Breathe. . . Have you ever had to think about breathing? Unless you are a woman giving birth, the answer is probably no. God created us to survive by breathing automatically. When our body stops breathing we die. Is our faith the same way? Is our faith something we don’t have to think about working to grow or sustain? When you were baptized, your sins were washed with life saving water and you were given the Holy Spirit as Jesus promised. The Holy Spirit is our spiritual breath that grows our faith and guides our conscience. The Holy Spirit is however not something which works without our involvement. The Holy Spirit works through God’s Word and the Sacraments. The Holy Spirit does not work outside of the Word. The Holy Spirit teaches from the Word and through Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We receive Word and Sacraments when we attend a divine worship setting, but this does not grow our faith throughout the week. What is guiding our conscience the other six days? Seek out God in His Word. Look to His Word for answers. Rely on His Word to guide your life. Don’t rely on human understanding. READ your Bible!
Were you able to commit to having one devotion? A few weeks ago, your Elders asked you to make the commitment to have one devotion. Have you found time? Thanks be to God for those that found time. May God continue to offer opportunities for those that didn’t. Devotions provide a way for the Spirit to breathe life into our souls, to provide the peace we need and offer the life saving Gospel. As promised, we will be providing many different ways to make devotions a part of your everyday life. Please continue to look for more opportunities to make your home Christ centered. If you have any questions, please ask your Elder. To God be ALL the glory.
SHEPERD PROGRAM
Are you a member of St. Peter’s? Do you see people you know on Sunday morning when walking into church? Well, then you are uniquely qualified to be a shepherd in the new Shepherd Program that is starting at St. Peter’s. New members include those who go through the new member class to be confirmed, as well as those who are transferring in from another Lutheran congregation. We are looking for anyone who is interested in becoming a shepherd to one of God’s sheep. If you would like more information about this worthwhile program, please contact the church office or anyone from the Assimilation Board: Donna Harvey, Chairman, Marsha Woods, Hollie Rudoni, Kim Wampler, Liz Scherer and Patty O’Hara.
